My God – I go away for a week and everything happens while my back’s turned..!
Firstly – I’m delighted that Felipe Massa is recovering and well enough to go home. That’s great news, and I hope he recovers fully, quickly, and is able to race in F1 again. My thoughts and best wishes are with you, Felipe.
And then…
Ferrari announce that MS will replace him at Valencia.
I’d be pretty hacked off if I was Luca Badoer or Marc Gene (the Ferrari test drivers). The test drivers are supposed to be able to step in if one of the race drivers is unable to race for any reason but they’ve been passed over for someone who hasn’t raced for nearly 3 years.
OK – it is MS, but even he’s feeling the strain.
On the other hand, my mouth is watering at the prospect of the race at Valencia – pity it’s such an awful circuit for overtaking. Remember last year’s race? A procession.
If MS had made a return at one of the tracks with overtaking opportunities that would have been much more interesting.
Still – how will Kimi react? (Bad news on his rallying accident, by the way).
Will Brawn re-discover their form? (Guys – it was something you did to the car between Turkey and Silverstone – that’s when it started to go backwards).
Will the improved McClaren with Lewis Hamilton tussle with MS? Both McClaren and Ferrari have made some good improvements and seem to be pretty evenly matched.
It’s a mouthwatering prospect. But I still feel sorry for those Ferrari test drivers – they have every right to be very unhappy.
